Adawa Memorie: A Modern Oasis in the Heart of Addis Ababa

The Adwa Victory Memorial, inaugurated on February 11, 2024, in the heart of Addis Ababa's Piassa area, stands as a profound tribute to Ethiopia's historic triumph at the Battle of Adwa in 1896. This battle marked a significant victory over colonial forces, symbolizing the nation's resilience and unity.

Architecturally, the memorial is a grand complex comprising eleven interconnected blocks spanning five floors. It features four cardinal entrances, each dedicated to heroes from the North, South, East, and West, representing the nationwide effort in the battle. The design thoughtfully incorporates Ethiopian symbols, with elements inspired by the Axum obelisks and Lalibela's rock-hewn churches evident in the corridor supports and staircases.
